Sound of Home (2020) - Student recordings for 7/13/2020 music workshop with the Del Sol String Quartet.

In preparation for a summer music workshop with the Del Sol String Quartet, conducted online via Zoom, 4th grade student participants from Dianne Feinstein ES were invited to find, record and share three sounds that describe “home.”

While sheltering in place during the coronavirus pandemic, the students at Dianne Feinstein Elementary School, recorded their "sounds of home" for a new work by the Del Sol String Quartet, inspired by nine collaborative student poems, which, in turn, were inspired by the immigrant poems carved into the walls of the Angel Island Immigration Station barracks.

“Your Wall is Our Canvas: the Angel Island Project,” composed by Huang Ruo and performed by the Del Sol String Quartet with the contemporary chamber choir, Volti, will weave a story of immigration and discrimination of then and now. https://www.delsolquartet.com/angelisland
